The verb stays second, or jumps to the front
In a W-question the question word fills the first slot and the verb keeps its second place, pushing the subject behind it: Wo wohnst du, Wann kommst du, Warum lernst du Deutsch. In a yes/no question there is no question word, so the verb itself takes the first slot: Wohnst du hier, Kommst du mit, Hast du Zeit. Either way the verb ends up in front of the subject, which is the visible sign that you are asking rather than telling. All the German question words begin with W, which is why they are called W-Fragen, and that single letter makes them easy to spot and easy to remember.
