Ordering, and the tipping habit that has no equivalent
To order, the natural pattern is als plus the course, then the verb, then what you want: Als Hauptgericht nehme ich den Fisch. Note den — nehmen takes the accusative, just like haben in lesson 41. Two practical points that matter more than grammar. The bill never comes unasked, so you say Die Rechnung, bitte. And tipping is done out loud: you round the total up and announce the new figure as you hand over the money, or say Stimmt so, that is right, meaning keep the change. Leaving coins on the table as you walk out is an English habit, not a German one.
