Three patterns after an object
وقتی فعل مفعول دارد، سه الگو در پی میآید و انتخاب اشتباه یکی از رایجترین خطاهای B2 است. مفعول + مصدر با to — گروه بزرگ: want, ask, tell, expect, allow, permit, persuade, remind, advise, encourage, force, order, warn, teach. «I want you to be home.» «She persuaded me to apply.» مفعول + مصدر بدون to — گروهی خیلی کوچک: make, let, have (سببی)، بهعلاوهٔ help (هر دو درست است). «They made me wait.» «Let me explain.» «I had the technician check it.» توجه: مجهولِ «make» با «to» میآید: «I was made to wait.» مفعول + -ing — افعال ادراک و چند فعل دیگر: see, hear, watch, notice, feel, catch, find, keep, stop, prevent. افعال ادراک هر دو را میگیرند با تفاوتی: «I saw him cross the road» (کل عمل از آغاز تا پایان) در برابر «I saw him crossing the road» (در جریان، بخشی از آن را دیدم).
When a verb has an object, three patterns follow, and choosing wrongly is one of the most common B2 errors. OBJECT + TO-INFINITIVE — the large group: want, ask, tell, expect, allow, permit, persuade, remind, advise, encourage, force, order, warn, teach. "I want you to be home." "She persuaded me to apply." OBJECT + BARE INFINITIVE — a very small group: make, let, have (causative), plus help (both work). "They made me wait." "Let me explain." "I had the technician check it." Note the passive of "make" DOES take "to": "I was made to wait." OBJECT + -ING — verbs of perception and a few others: see, hear, watch, notice, feel, catch, find, keep, stop, prevent. Perception verbs take both, with a difference: "I saw him cross the road" (the whole action, start to finish) versus "I saw him crossing the road" (in progress, I saw part of it).
