گرامر: would rather / it's time + گذشتهٔ غیرواقعی

would rather / it's time + unreal past

فاعلِ یکسان — مصدرِ بدون to: «I would rather stay in.» برای مقایسه «than» اضافه کن: «I'd rather walk than drive.» فاعلِ متفاوت — گذشتهٔ ساده، هرچند معنا حال یا آینده است: «I'd rather you didn't smoke here.» (نه «don't smoke»). همین الگو با «it's time»: «It's time we left.» — شکلِ گذشته این حس را می‌دهد که کار دیر شده. برای فشارِ بیشتر «high» یا «about» بیاور: «It's high time you told her.» مقایسه کن: «It's time to go» (خنثی، مصدر) در برابر «It's time we went» (سرزنشِ ملایم، شکلِ گذشته).

SAME subject — use the bare infinitive: "I would rather stay in." To compare, add "than": "I'd rather walk than drive." DIFFERENT subject — use the past simple, even though the meaning is present or future: "I'd rather you didn't smoke here." (not "don't smoke"). Same pattern with "it's time": "It's time we left." — the past form carries a sense that the action is overdue. Add "high" or "about" for extra pressure: "It's high time you told her." Compare: "It's time to go" (neutral, infinitive) versus "It's time we went" (mild reproach, past form).

I'd rather you called me tomorrow.
