Claiming expertise without exaggerating
مصاحبهٔ تخصصی دو خطای متضاد را جریمه میکند: مبهم به نظر رسیدن، و متورم به نظر رسیدن. انگلیسی یک سطحِ میانه در اختیارت میگذارد. برای مدت تجربه از حال کامل استمراری استفاده کن: «I have been working on X for six years» — کار تمام نشده و شش سال هنوز در جریان است. مقایسه کن با «I worked on X for six years» که میگوید تمام شده. برای محدود کردن یک ادعا از قالب تقابلی استفاده کن: «Broadly yes, though my real depth is in…»، «I have had some exposure to X, but I would not call myself an expert.» برای اعتراف به یک خلأ از tend to بههمراه دلیل استفاده کن، نه از عذرخواهی: «I tend to design for correctness and think about cost afterwards.» فعل tend to ضعف را به عادتی توصیفشده تبدیل میکند که صادقانه به نظر میرسد نه تدافعی. برای نرم کردن ادعای قوی از I would say / I would argue استفاده کن: «I would say my strongest area is diagnosis.» اینها پرکننده نیستند — حذفشان باعث میشود انگار فرق دانسته و پنداشتهات را نمیدانی.
A specialist interview punishes two opposite mistakes: sounding vague, and sounding inflated. English gives you a middle register. FOR LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE use the present perfect continuous: "I have been working on X for six years" — the work is unfinished, and the six years are still running. Compare "I worked on X for six years", which says it is over. FOR NARROWING A CLAIM use a contrast frame: "Broadly yes, though my real depth is in…", "I have had some exposure to X, but I would not call myself an expert." FOR ADMITTING A GAP use tend to plus a reason, not an apology: "I tend to design for correctness and think about cost afterwards." The verb tend to turns a weakness into a described habit, which sounds honest rather than defensive. FOR SOFTENING A STRONG CLAIM use I would say / I would argue: "I would say my strongest area is diagnosis." These are not fillers — dropping them makes you sound like you cannot tell the difference between what you know and what you think.
