پنج درس، یک سطح سبک: فاصله
| انگلیسی | فارسی | مثال |
|---|---|---|
| register /ˈredʒɪstə/ |
سطح سبک | Match the register to the reader. سطح سبک را با خواننده جور کن. |
| distance /ˈdɪstəns/ |
فاصله | Modals create distance from a claim. افعال وجهی از ادعا فاصله میسازند. |
| evidence /ˈevɪdəns/ |
شاهد، مدرک | Adjectives without evidence are noise. صفت بدون شاهد سر و صداست. |
| diplomatic /ˌdɪpləˈmætɪk/ |
با ملاحظه، دیپلماتیک | A diplomatic answer is not a dishonest one. پاسخ بامُلاحظه پاسخ ناصادق نیست. |
| commit /kəˈmɪt/ |
متعهد شدن | Neither side wants to commit too early. هیچ طرفی نمیخواهد زود متعهد شود. |
| stake /steɪk/ |
منفعت، آنچه در میان است | Everyone at the table has a stake in it. همهٔ حاضران در آن منفعتی دارند. |
| phrasing /ˈfreɪzɪŋ/ |
نحوهٔ بیان | Change the phrasing, not the facts. نحوهٔ بیان را عوض کن، نه واقعیتها را. |
| candour /ˈkændə/ |
صراحت صادقانه | Distance is not the opposite of candour. فاصله نقطهٔ مقابل صراحت نیست. |
One toolkit for the whole working day
پنج موقعیت، یک گرامرِ زیرین. ادعا کردن (درس ۳۱): حال کامل استمراری برای تجربهٔ در جریان، I would say برای ادعای نرمشده، tend to برای ضعفِ صادقانه. روایت کردن (۳۲): گذشتهٔ ساده برای زنجیره، end up + ing برای اتفاق، go on to برای قدم عمدی، Having + اسم مفعول برای فشردهکردن علت. معامله کردن (۳۳): if بههمراه گذشته برای فاصله، would / could برای کاوش، provided that برای شرطِ نامبرده.
Five situations, one underlying grammar. CLAIMING (lesson 31): present perfect continuous for ongoing experience, I would say for the softened claim, tend to for the honest weakness. NARRATING (32): past simple for the chain, end up -ing for the accident, go on to for the deliberate step, Having + past participle to compress a cause. TRADING (33): if plus past tense for distance, would / could for exploration, provided that for your named condition. REPORTING TROUBLE (34): agentless passive to remove the person, it seems for the impression, nominalisation to make the problem a thing, should have for your own share. WRITING (35): nominalisation, the formal twin of every phrasal verb, fixed opening and closing formulae, evidence instead of adjectives. What unites them is DISTANCE — grammatical space between the speaker and the bare assertion. Learners often mistake this for insincerity. It is the opposite: distance is what makes it safe for the other side to disagree with you, which is the only condition under which they can also agree.
