The four moves, side by side
حال کامل برای مسئلهٔ برقرار؛ وجهیتِ درجهبندیشده از we should تا it might be worth -ing؛ دامنهٔ محدودشده با rather than و in the first instance؛ و اعتراضِ پاسخداده پیش از طرحشدن، با admittedly … however. درجه در جلو (far cheaper، marginally better)، مبنا نامبرده در پی آن (per unit، once storage is included)، not as … as برای منفیِ گفتاری، و تفضیلی دوگانه (the more X, the more Y) برای دو چیزی که با هم حرکت میکنند.
CHAINING A CAUSE (49). Participle clauses to compress a cause into a phrase (Drained for irrigation, the lake shrank); sentential which to hang a consequence off everything before it, with in turn to extend the chain; the present perfect passive for a state that still stands (has been depleted); and three separate words for three separate roles — a trigger sets it off, a cause produces it, a contributing factor helps. PROPOSING (50). Present perfect for the standing problem; graded modality from we should down to it might be worth -ing; scope limited with rather than and in the first instance; and the objection answered before it is raised with admittedly … however. COMPARING (51). The degree in front (far cheaper, marginally better), the basis named after (per unit, once storage is included), not as … as for the spoken negative, and the double comparative (the more X, the more Y) for two things moving together. DISAGREEING (52) and PROPORTION (53). Concede a specific part, not a vague one; prefer and to but so the concession survives; put the disagreement onto a pattern rather than a person; keep scale words honest (a fraction of, the bulk of); ask by whom of every passive that hides an agent; and hold the line between pointless and insufficient.
