گرامر: پنج درس، یک عادتِ خواندن

Five lessons, one reading habit

نتایج ناخواسته (۵۶). and yet برای شکاف میان نیت و نتیجه؛ without + ing برای پرسشی که کسی نپرسید؛ turn out و end up برای نتایجی که نقشه نبودند؛ come to برای رانشِ کند؛ و فاعل برآمده (the algorithm learns) — گاهی درست، و باقی وقت‌ها راهی برای پنهان‌کردن یک تصمیم. موافقت و تغییر مسیر (۵۷). nor do I / neither can I با وارونگی؛ تغییر مسیری که واقعیت را می‌پذیرد و ربطش را رد می‌کند؛ و is it proportionate to…? که احساس را به نسبت تبدیل می‌کند. تمایزگذاری (۵۸). there is a difference between X and Y؛ the objection is to X, not to Y as such؛ strictly speaking در برابر in practice؛ و پذیرفتن تمایز با that is a fair point, I would still… گزارش (۵۹). نردبان شدت از suggests تا proves؛ حال ساده برای آنچه متن می‌گوید؛ الگوی ثابت پس از هر فعل؛ و هرگز حذف‌نکردن قید احتیاطی. عادتی که این پنج را به هم می‌بندد آخرین جملهٔ دانشجوست: اگر از طرف مقابل می‌خواندی‌اش، قاب‌بندی خودت را می‌پذیرفتی؟

FRAMING (55). Four grammatical choices carry bias: voice (who is named as agent), nominalisation (the verb hidden in a noun — ask who did it), the reporting verb (said / claimed / admitted / revealed / insisted), and presupposition (what the sentence assumes rather than asserts). Allegedly is legal cover, not doubt. UNINTENDED OUTCOMES (56). and yet for the gap between intention and result; without + -ing for the question nobody asked; turn out and end up for outcomes that were not the plan; come to for slow drift; and the emergent subject (the algorithm learns) — true sometimes, and a way of hiding a decision the rest of the time. AGREEING AND REDIRECTING (57). nor do I / neither can I with inversion; the redirect that concedes the fact and denies its relevance; and is it proportionate to…?, which turns feeling into ratio. DISTINGUISHING (58). there is a difference between X and Y; the objection is to X, not to Y as such; strictly speaking versus in practice; and conceding a distinction with that is a fair point, I would still… REPORTING (59). The strength ladder from suggests to proves; present simple for what a text says; the fixed pattern after each verb; and never cutting the caveat. The habit that ties all five together is the student's last line: would you accept your own framing if you were reading it from the other side?

Who closed it? "The closure" does not say.
چه کسی بستش؟ «The closure» نمی‌گوید.
Nor do I — but that is not the question.
من هم ندارم — ولی سؤال این نیست.
She argues it; she does not claim to prove it.
استدلالش می‌کند؛ ادعای اثباتش را ندارد.
