Three prepositions, and a list worth memorising

برای شهرها و بعضی مکان‌های مشخص از a استفاده کن: a Roma، a casa، a scuola، al mercato، al cinema. برای کشورها و بیشتر مغازه‌ها و نهادها از in استفاده کن که معمولاً بدون حرف تعریف می‌آید: in Italia، in banca، in farmacia، in centro. و وقتی مقصد یک «شخص» است از da استفاده کن: dal medico، dal dentista، da Maria. فارسی هر سه را با یک «به» پوشش می‌دهد، پس این را باید مثل واژگان یاد بگیری نه مثل منطق. یک الگوی کاربردی که ارزش دیدن دارد: مکان‌هایی که in می‌گیرند اغلب حرف تعریف را کلاً می‌اندازند، و همین آن‌ها را کوتاه‌تر و آسان‌تر از آنچه به نظر می‌رسند می‌کند.

Use a with cities and with some specific places: a Roma, a casa, a scuola, al mercato, al cinema. Use in with countries and with most shops and institutions, usually without an article: in Italia, in banca, in farmacia, in centro. Use da when the destination is a person: dal medico, dal dentista, da Maria. Persian covers all three with one «به», so this must be learned as vocabulary rather than logic. A useful pattern to notice: places taking in often drop the article entirely, which makes them shorter and easier than they look.
