The vehicle takes no article
برای وسیله‌ای که داخلش می‌روی، از in بدون حرف تعریف استفاده کن: in macchina، in treno، in autobus، in aereo. گفتن in la macchina غلط است؛ حرف تعریف اصلاً ظاهر نمی‌شود. برای سفر با پاهای خودت یا روی یک حیوان، از a استفاده کن: a piedi، a cavallo. دقت کن که ایتالیایی در انتخاب فعل از انگلیسی راحت‌تر است — فعل andare هم پیاده‌روی را پوشش می‌دهد هم سوار شدن را، پس آن تصمیم gehen در برابر fahrenِ آلمانی اینجا وجود ندارد. و یک کلمهٔ عملی مفید: در ایتالیا باید پیش از سوار شدن بلیتت را اعتبارسنجی کنی، و برای همین هر ایستگاهی یک دستگاه دارد و فعلی به نام timbrare یعنی «مهر زدن».
For a vehicle you climb inside, use in with no article: in macchina, in treno, in autobus, in aereo. Saying in la macchina is wrong; the article simply does not appear. For travel on your own legs or on top of an animal, use a: a piedi, a cavallo. Note that Italian is more relaxed than English about which verb to use — andare covers both walking and riding, so there is no gehen-versus-fahren decision as in German. And a useful practical word: in Italy you must validate your ticket before boarding, which is why every station has a machine and the verb timbrare, to stamp.
