The simplest question system in this course
Perché lavoro.
Compare what the other languages demand. French offers three registers and one of them inverts the verb. German moves the verb to the front. English inserts do out of nowhere. Italian does none of this: the statement and the question have identical word order and only the melody changes, exactly as in Persian. With a question word, that word simply goes first and the rest stays put: Dove abiti, Quando parti, Quanto costa. One small note: perché means both why and because, so the question and its answer share a word — Perché non vieni? Perché lavoro.
