Irregular, and worth every minute
فعل avere بی‌قاعده است و حفظ کردنش تقریباً بیش از هر کلمهٔ دیگری جواب می‌دهد. مالکیت را می‌دهد، سن را از درس ۱۳، گرسنگی و تشنگی را از درس ۲۳، نیاز را با avere bisogno di، و حق داشتن را با avere ragione. بعدها کل زمان ماضی نقلی را هم همین می‌سازد. آن h بی‌صدا فقط برای این وجود دارد که چهار شکل را در نوشتار از هم جدا نگه دارد: ho در برابر o به‌معنی «یا»، hai در برابر ai به‌معنی «به‌سوی»، ha در برابر a به‌معنی «به»، و hanno در برابر anno به‌معنی «سال». بدون h تلفظشان کن و درستی؛ بدون h بنویسشان و نیستی.
Avere is irregular and repays memorising more than almost any other word. It gives possession, age from lesson 13, hunger and thirst from lesson 23, need with avere bisogno di, and being right with avere ragione. Later it also builds the entire perfect tense. The silent h exists only to keep four forms apart in writing: ho against o meaning or, hai against ai meaning to the, ha against a meaning to, hanno against anno meaning year. Say them without the h and you are correct; write them without it and you are not.
